True Inclusion

Diversity without inclusion is tokenism. True inclusion requires dismantling invisible obstacles. Based on what I have seen, several hidden cultural derailers must be acknowledged and addressed:

  • Micromanagement: Stifles diverse leadership styles and creates an environment of distrust.

  • Conformity bias: Favoring the "majority voice" ignores valuable perspectives and discourages open discussion.

  • Unconscious favoritism: Subtle biases in promotion or feedback can perpetuate the status quo.

  • Lack of belonging: Feeling undervalued or excluded leads to high turnover and disengagement.

Tackling these cultural derailers requires introspection, honest conversations, and systemic change.
